From SATA-Peru-2007
Today is our finals day here in Peru and probably will be the least fun day of the semester. For me, the day began around 7:00, which was when I woke up and did some last minute cramming for my Spanish test at 8:30. Had some breakfast around 8 before heading over to colegio andino for Spanish. Surprisingly the test went well for all 5 of us in this class (I use the word surprisingly because of the way some of the other tests have gone) and only lasted about an hour and a half, at which point we went back to our rooms and started our ethnohistory take home final. This test basically covered the entire semester, but was not too bad because we were able to use our notes as well as the readings for the class. The test consisted of 6 essay questions and we had to answer 4 of them. I finished the first two questions before lunch at around 1 and then struggled through the next two finishing the whole test around 4, which didn’t leave me with much time to breathe because of quechua class at 5. Before class, I decided to walk around for an hour or so to get some air before sitting in a classroom for another hour and a half. It is our last quechua class so we did our best to review everything and had a couple different types of evaluations. First, Gina went around to each of us trying to see if we were all conversational at this point and then we reviewed (mostly by memory) all the songs we had learned throughout the semester. The last part of class was a written evaluation, where we had about 20 minutes and a blank piece of paper to show her what we had learned. During this time, we wrote down words, verb conjugations and sentences. Class ended and a few of us went out for a drink before heading back to the hostel for dinner. We ate dinner and then I chatted with Ana-Maria (our ethnohistory professor) for a few minutes as I handed in our take home exams. Now, we are more or less home free for the rest of our time here in Peru, so we decided to go out dancing to celebrate. We met up with some of the employees of CBC (the hostel and college were associated with) and had a great night at a few different clubs around the Plaza de Armas. Went to bed very content at around 1:30.
