From SATA-Peru-2007

The day started with what has become our typical breakfast of bread/croissants, butter, jam and delicious juice, usually pineapple that has the strange side effect of causing some of our tongues to swell.

Spanish class today was excellent as usual. We have been practicing the subjunctive's usage and reading articles dealing with the politics, socio-economic situations and educational system of Peru. In Manuel's class the topic of conversation was Manuel's thesis on the bari and their usage, classification and diverse knowledge of plant and tree species. Accompanying the actual text of the thesis was Manuel's personal story of how he had work hard and overcome much adversity to complete it.

After class the rest of my day was consumed by footbal. Erich and I in our search for a court to play on ran into a game with several teen-aged Cusquenans. The game unfortunately ended with Erich and I having to fork over some 6 sols that we had bet on the game. Contributing to our loss, I must add, was the fact that our two teamates were by the far the weakest players of the bunch and the rules, when concerning the opposing team, were strangely flexible.

Later that night we had yet another football match with some of the guys from our hotel; Adrian, Hugo, Jorge, Darwin and Ricardo, all of whom are skilled futbolistas. We had enough players this time for three teams and we had a little round robin playoff that lasted 2 hours and left us all exhausted. In our room this resulted in us oversleeping the next morning and arriving to spanish class, no less than ten minutes late.
