From SATA-Peru-2007
Today was our midterm for ethnoecology. The midterm consisted of 4 essay questions pertaining to the material we have read thus far for the class. Our responses were to be a page each. After the test we were relieved and most of us just relaxed before lunch. After lunch Adonnica and I went to 2 different markets. One of them was like the Molino, (black market) and after that one we went to the artisan’s market for some souvenirs. The first market was pretty big and we were the only non-locals in there so we got some strange looks, but everything was definitely really cheap. For example, I bought a cute alpaca hat for my little sister for only 3 soles! (1 dollar!!) What a bargain! At the artisan’s market, the same hat was 6 soles, double the price, but I guess still only 2 dollars so I guess not a huge difference. While I was shopping around, Adonnica got caught up talking to this guy in Quechua, literally for 45 minutes! I thought I’d lost her and then found her the same place I left her. She got some cool spider earrings from the guy. While we were at the market, others went to a local café and played Scrabble in Spanish, good practice! After Quechua class and dinner, some of us stayed here and relaxed for the rest of the evening, while others went out for some dancing with some locals who work at the hotel.
