From SATA-Peru-2007
Today we had our first dining experiences at both the Bagel Cafe and La Chomba, two very different but equally delicious restaurants. The bagel cafe, located on Gringo Alley here in Cusco, wich we heard about from the talented linguist Glenn Shepherd or as we have grown accustomed to calling him, Glennifer. The shop is maybe the only place in Cusco where fresh bagels with cream cheese are sirved, it is owned by two Israeli twins and photos of the many jews that have visited the place to enjoy a taste of home line the walls. It was a very delicious way for us to enter back into the cusco scene this morning.
Erich and I returned to Varun's favorite restaurant in Cusco La Chomba, which is a traditional hole in the wall restaurant that serves the meals of the andean campesino as well as the quechuan drink chicha frutillada. The later was our reason for returning to this place after our first visit with varun. For one sol a giant pitcher sized cup of chicha mixed with fruits to give a sweet flavor is brought out to almost each and every one of the restaurants patrons.
As far as nocturnal activities went...on this night we partied. We all met up at what has become our favorite cusqueno pub, Norton's, and then proceeded to Garabatos for some lively dancing in a packed third story bar and known, at leats by us, for its raucus dance floor. Tonight we also got to meet and enjoy the company of Ursula, a lovely Limena ex-girlfriend of varun's who was also a very good dancer if I do say so myself. The night ended when there was no energy left for the romps on the dance floor and everyone stumbled home to Tullumayo.
