From SATA-Peru-2007
Although many of us were not feeling up to par health wise today, we all still managed to make it to both of our classes. Hayley, Mike, and Shana were able to have their Spanish class at a restaurant this morning with their professor. It was a nice change for them, although they were studying the whole time for their test tomorrow. Two of the four Spanish classes have tests tomorrow so it has been a long day of studying. Intermediate II had to make up a class today, making it a very long day for that group, with a total of 4 classes. I am enjoying my Spanish class a lot, even though the 2 hours seems like a long time it is definitely beneficial for all of us. I am definitely able to talk more with my professor which is helping a lot. After Spanish we went to Lizarralde’s class, where we discussed John Hemming’s book The Conquest of the Incas. After our lunch of rice and beans, two “shamans” came to talk to our group. We met downstairs and they discussed with us their connection with nature. After talking with these men, we were unsure if they were being honest about who they were. Deception is common here, so it’s always wise to question people’s motives. They were being very general with what they were talking about and not giving any first hand accounts. After the talk, most of us just rested and did work. Some of us had to make up the Spanish class, some went to the market to practice bargaining skills, some went to a local café, and others were bedridden for the afternoon. Hopefully everyone will be feeling better in time for Lake Titicaca on Monday!
