From SATA-Peru-2007
Today marked the first day of classes. After an early breafkast, we made our way over to the CBC center to meet the staff. After the meeting, we went to our first Spanish class. The SATA group was divided into four subgroups based on our proficiency in the language: Basic, Intermediate I, Intermediate II, and Advanced. We'll be taking intensive Spanish classes for 50 minutes every day in hopes of becoming more fluent! Our second class of the day was Ethnohistory. We were a little concerned about the class being taught completely in Spanish, with everyone in the class at a different level of proficiency. Although our professor spoke very quickly and many were confused, we are still hopeful.
The afternoon contained many adventures for the SATA Peru group. A good portion of the students went for a hike, found an abandoned footbal stadium, and even discovered some cool places for us to check out on the weekend. Others made the hike to Saqsaywaman in preparation for our trek on the Inca Trail. As we sat around the fireplace recalling the day's adventures, we couldn't help but wonder what adventures are to come.
