From SATA-Peru-2007
This morning started out with a bang.. literally. For some reason, every morning in Cusco has begun with exploding fireworks in the street at any time between 4am and 7am. However, I am learning to save a special place in my heart for this morning ritual. After begrudgingly rolling out of bed, I opened the window to feel the cool Andes air. Below on the street, cars and people were already hustling to get somewhere, and street vendors had taken their positions, attempting to sell fruit and trinkets.
After breakfast, we all strolled down the road and into the cobblestone alleyway leading to our classes. The time eventually came for us to enter the dreaded ethnohistory class. However, today, our professor talked much slower. That made all the difference from Monday's class, and made life much more enjoyable.
One area of the South American culture that I am thoroughly enjoying is the mid-day siesta. A mi me gusta mucho. ( I like it very much) Life here is much more relaxed compared to the hustle and bustle in the United States. We are all learning so much about Cusco and it's inhabitants. There are always people ready to share their unique and interesting life story with you. Well, I believe it's time to get back to reading.. it's absolutely fantastic to be able to see what you're learning about first hand.
