From SATA-Peru-2007

Today was a relaxing day, after completing our first week of classes. After a breakfast of Pan de Cusco, Shana, Leia, Emily and I headed out to the market with Darwin to buy the ingredients for the ceviche we were making for lunch. We bought fish, vegetables, and white peaches from the local market, where the amount of raw meat was slightly overwhelming. We went to a supermarket to pick up some meat and fruit. We also bought a watermelon (because we felt obligated to after Shana stuck it up her shirt to demonstrate "embarazada.") When we returned to the hotel, Shana, Leia and I went straight to the kitchen. Hans and Erich headed off for a hiking adventure and others started in on homework.

Once in the kitchen, we went to work peeling carrots and at least 632 potatoes. Shana multitasked by filming the continuation of Cinco Mujeres en la Cocina. As the fish cooked in its citrus marinade, we enjoyed the Peruvian version of risotto, which was delicious. We also prepared chicken and soup for the other large group that has joined us at the hotel (Shana and I helped by mostly just eating homemade popcorn.) Our group began to assemble at one, and we brought out the ceviche which went over really well. While we ate, Erich, Hans, and Paposito regaled us with stories of their intense treks.

After lunch many of us decided to do some work, while others played futbol outside in the courtyard. I took a late afternoon walk with Kerry, and we returned for dinner. A few of us watched the Peru and Columbia soccer game after dinner, and then headed out for a bit.

Overall, it was a relaxing day, and we went to bed looking forward to some manual labor at Azul Wasi the next day.
