DIGITAL CURRICULUM CENTER (DCC) POLICIES
1. The DCC is a location where faculty can digitize materials needed for curriculum support. Faculty are taught how to use the required technologies, and are supported as much as needed throughout production. Materials to be digitized can include paper text to electronic PDF files, photographs, images, slides, audio and video. The DCC also has digital still cameras, video cameras, and portable audio recording equipment that you may borrow.
2. Faculty can assign their own staff, or hire students, to do the work for them. We will then instruct and support them.
3. Any copyrighted materials, excluding images, that are converted to PDF must carry the following notice on the front page:
This material may be protected by copyright law (Title 17 U.S. Code)
This can be done by: a) manually writing the notice, b) using the rubber stamp available here or c) using the typewriter tool in Acrobat Pro.
4. We can perform the digitizing for you in most cases, with a week turnaround time (excluding vacations). Please plan ahead. If we cannot complete the project within one week, due to heavy workloads, we will notify you when you drop it off. We cannot do massive projects, as digitizing an entire book. Multi-page text-based articles that need to be scanned and converted to PDF must be provided as Xerox copies, this enables us to use the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF). The exception is where the faithful reproduction of images is important, in these cases please consult with us.
5. The DCC cannot upload files to faculty’s courses in Moodle. Faculty or their assistants need to do that. The faculty member may also transfer their files to CD-R, USB drives, or other removable media to take with them. These are to be provided by faculty. Files will not be emailed to faculty. The files can be archived here, our computers are backed up every night.
6. The DCC is usually, but not always, open from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday. If you do not need assistance, and a computer is available, you may use it. If you want to be guaranteed the use of a computer you must sign up for a specific computer, day, and time. This can be done in person, by email (fful@conncoll.edu) or telephone (439-5006). Please wait for confirmation of your request.
7. If you need assistance or instruction, you need to make an appointment with Frank Fulchiero, or other IS staff, in addition to signing up for a computer. This can also be done by email or phone.
8. The main purpose of the DCC is to support creation of digital assets for use in direct curriculum support. If we have time, we may be able to support faculty research projects, preparation of graphics for publication, creation of departmental promotional and informational material, etc. Please ask us what you need, we may be able to help you, or provide some advice.
