Intructions for Duplicating a DVD on a Mac
NOTE: IT IS ILLEGAL TO MAKE COPIES OF COMMERCIAL COPYRIGHTED DVDs
THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE ONLY FOR MAKING COPIES OF NON-COPYRIGHTED DISCS.
(In most cases, digital encryption makes it impossible to make copies of copyrighted DVDs)
IF YOU ARE CAUGHT MAKING ILLEGAL COPIES YOUR COMPUTER USE PRIVILEGES WILL BE REVOKED!!
- Put the DVD to copy in the computer.
- DVD Player will usually automatically open. Go to the top left menu (it appears when the cursor is dragged to the top), and Quit DVD Player.
- You should now see the DVD icon on the desktop.
- Open Disk Utility, in Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.
- Select the DVD player icon in the left column (select the drive icon, not the name of the disc below it).
- Click New Image, in Save As, give the new image the same exact name as the DVD (tip: select the DVD icon on the desktop, and copy>paste).
- Select a location that has enough space (4.5 gig) to save the image. (the desktop is usually convenient)
- In Image Format, select "DVD/CD master", in Encryption select "none".
- Click the Save button, this will create an image file with the name of the DVD with a .cdr extension.
- When the file is created, eject the original DVD with the eject key (upper right on keyboard).
- Put a blank DVD in the computer.
- If a dialog box comes up, asking what you want to do, select Action: Open Finder.
- Do not enter a name. Click OK.
- In Disk Utility, find and select the image .cdr file in the left column, and click the Burn button.
