Using the video out:
- In the iPod, go to Videos>Video Settings>TV Out, and select On or Ask
- Connect the Apple iPod AV cable between the iPod and the TV monitor. This will also work from the iPod Dock. The Dock has an S-Video connector, which enables higher quality.
- Video will not play on both the iPod and the TV monitor, only on one or the other.

Converting Video for Playing on iPods
There is considerable software, mac and pc for converting from .mov, .avi, DVD, to iPod mpeg4 or AVC/H.264 codecs
QuickTime Player Pro outputs to iPod format, Mac or PC.
iTunes 6 can now convert video for the iPod, PC and Mac, without buying QuickTime Pro
For converting DVDs to iPod formats, use Handbrake on Macs, there is now a beta PC version also. DVD to iPod from kainjow works with Handbrake.
For converting on PCs, here are some sources: AfterDawn Forum, VideoHelp Forum, Lenogo DVD to Movie Converter, iVideoToGo, and iPod Video Converter.
Free on the mac are iSquint and movies for my ipod. These do not need QT Pro.
Converting from YouTube to iPod, Mac, using Safari and iSquint
Keep Vid downloads the flash file to the desktop (PC and Mac), you still have to recompress it with iSquint (Mac).

Converting from YouTube to iPod Latest software: iTube for PC (free), YouTube to iPod Converter for PC (free, tested, works well), PodTube for Mac ($5), TubeSock for Mac ($15)
You should only convert DVDs you legally own for your own iPod, for personal use. This comes under Copyright Fair Use guidelines, otherwise you are breaking copyright law, in most cases.
