Image Manipulation

  1. Ensure your image file and Word document are available on the computer.
  2. Open Photoshop.
  3. Go to File>Open. Find your image and click “Open”.
  4. Select the Crop tool, make a selection. This can be changed by dragging the small boxes.
  5. Hit Enter to crop.
  6. Go to Image>Image Size. Select:
    1. Scale Styles, Constrain Proportions
    2. Resample Image: Bicubic Sharper
    3. Resolution: 150 dpi
    4. Document height: 5”
  7. Use the magnifying glass to zoom in and out, if needed.
  8. Go to Image>Adjustments>Brightness/Contrast. Adjust these.
  9. Go to Filter>Sharpen if you think it will help
  10. Save as “your-image-name-b.jpg”, quality High. Do not overwrite the original file.
  11. Open Microsoft Word 2007.
  12. In Office Button>Open, open your document, place the cursor in the location you want to insert your image
  13. Go to Insert>Picture, find your image, and insert.
  14. Right-click on picture, go to Format Picture, Layout>Square, Alignment Center.
  15. Additional resizing can be done in Word.
  16. When you are done, save your document, (make sure it’s a Word 2003 “doc” and not a “docx” extension)
  17. Save another copy as a PDF, go to Office Button>Save As>Adobe PDF. Remember where you are saving your file!
