UCTV Channels
From Acorn
AT THIS TIME the system is not transmitting while copyright issues are worked out.
Thanks to the University of Canberra, to the right was their basic channel lineup, in spring 2007. This will change with time, we will post the latest information here. You must be on the Internet2 subnet to receive these. We may be able to record some of these programs for you, when they come back up.
Below is more information on each channel. We are developing a better system to display schedules. All information is being checked and revised, please contact Frank Fulchiero, fful@conncoll.edu for any corrections or suggestions.

Australia Network (From Australia, English Language)
An international satellite television service operated by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Aimed at the Asia-Pacific and India regions, it broadcasts a mixture of programming, with a focus on English learning programs. Its motto is from the region, for the region. The service is partly funded by Australia's Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), and partly by advertising, unlike the ABC's domestic television service, which carries no advertising. The channel is available free-to-air to East Asia and the Pacific Islands via satellite and local cable systems is also now available in South Asia, Southeast Asia and the Middle East. The service is designed with people from the region, as opposed to expatriates, as its target audience.
Screening programs specifically produced for regional audiences, Australia Network draws on programming available from both the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and Australian commercial television networks and independent production houses from around the world.
You can catch the latest regional news, update your English language skills and tune in to international documentaries, lifestyle programs and top quality dramas. Extensive sports coverage and award winning children’s programs are also included in the programming mix.

CCTV General Information (China)
China Central Television or Chinese Central Television, is the major broadcast television network in Mainland China. Organizationally, it is a sub-ministry of People's Republic of China's central government within the State Administration of Radio, Television, and Film and as such it does not have any editorial independence from the PRC government. Its news reporting follows parameters directed by the Propaganda Department of the Communist Party of China. Most of its programming, however, is a mix of comedy and dramatic programming, the majority of which consists of Chinese soap operas.
CCTV has sixteen different channels of programming content and competes with television stations run by local governments (such as BTV and several regional channels) and foreign programming which can be readily received via satellite television. Outside China, it is only possible to receive channels CCTV-4 (overseas channel), CCTV-9 (overseas channel targeted at an English-speaking audience), and CCTV-E&F (overseas channel targeted at Spanish-speaking and French-speaking audiences).
CCTV E&F (From China, in French and Spanish)
Broadcast in Spanish and French languages. The channel caters to an international audience. Programs on CCTV-E&F in the USA have French/Spanish subtitles (check this!). There are also news programs featuring French reporters. These programs provide both Chinese and international news coverage. Most programs on CCTV-E&F are 30 minutes long. They feature a variety of content, including news programs, educational programs, and Chinese soap operas. There are also programs offering tourism advice and showcasing new Chinese artists.
CCTV 4 (From China, in Mandarin, Chinese, and ?, some subtitles)
This is the international broadcast for CCTV International in the Mandarin language. This channel contains a variety of programs including documentaries, music, news, dramas, sports, and cartoons.

CCTV 9 (From China, in English)
Also called CCTV-International. It focuses its programming predominantly on world news, Chinese current affairs, Chinese language lessons, travel documentaries and cultural programs. Most programs are usually between 15 and 30 minutes long. Aside from news and current affairs, CCTV-9 has weekly features on Chinese businesses which have become successful through good business practices, and good fortune. It also details the latest movie, film, and music releases finding their way to the Mainland, as well as very detailed information on issues relating to other Asian and third-world countries.
The target demographic for CCTV International is overseas Chinese and English speakers who wish to know more about China. However, Xinhua News Agency, via its newspaper International Herald Leader, estimates 90% of the channels 14 million daily viewers are in mainland China. Only 4% of those viewing in China are English speakers; instead, it is watched by native Chinese speakers attempting to learn English.
